Psychic Skills

There seems to be two conclusions people arrive at when asked about Psychic Skills, people either believe in psychic abilities or they don’t. It’s that simple. My opinion is that we all have inherent psychic abilities that allow us to connect with the unseen world. How does this occur?

My opinion is that we all are connected to a collective unconscious. Several years ago, I read an interesting book called “Memories and Visions of Paradise”. In it, the author tells a tale of the mythologies that people all over the world have come to accept as their origin.

This mythological origin centers on a paradise, a golden age and the fall from it. One of the most interesting points in the book comes from a question rather than a statement (Most often, I find questions to be even more interesting than answers). The author ventures to ask, “ How did these indigenous people from all over the world, whom had no way of communicating, somehow the come to the same stories of their origins”? “How did they all arrive at the same story without ever having the benefit of consulting on it’? One answer points to the theory of a collective unconscious, which Carl Jung also refers to in his theories. How do we arrive at the archetypes, the characters of our own mythologies?

If in fact we all belong to this collective unconscious, then perhaps we tap into the source from time to time, some more often than others. Nowhere more often is this seen, as it is with children. When we are young, we are innocent, honest and pure. Children are always their true selves. Children inherently “know” certain things without being “told”. As a child, perhaps you had an invisible friend or maybe you saw things that others didn’t. Certainly it was passed off as youthful imagination. But there are many stories of children connecting with relatives that had passed over long before they were even born.

It is with the bubble bursting onset of age that we are told that we are being ridiculous and we should just stop saying those things. We are making people uncomfortable, we are embarrassing ourselves and our parents. And so with the mind numbing realization that a certain part of us is being left behind, we acquiesce to the elders and we stop. We stop believing, we stop acknowledging and soon we stop listening to that little voice inside us that use to tell us things, magical special things. We tune out and drop out of the world that exists just beyond ours.

So one day you arrive at a series of remarkable coincidences and you wonder what is going on? Is someone trying to tell you something? Yes, Virginia there is an unseen world out there.

So now what do you do? How do you step back into the flow? Do you dare stick your toe in the waters of the unseen world?

Some people recover their abilities with little trouble, others have a harder time. To start with, you must believe that your natural abilities have never left you. They have just gone dormant, waiting for you to step back into the flow again.

This journey will be different for everyone, for each of us has different ways of connecting to our source. For some, they will get a mental picture, others may get a sense of knowing. What means something to one person may trigger a different meaning for another. This just enhances my belief that we are all special, unique and individual as a fingerprint or the very DNA with which we were born. The following will outline the different types of psychic abilities exist.

Clair Cognizant

I’ve decided to start with this “clair” because in my experience it seems to be the most common and the one that most people are unaware that they’re using. This is most frequent among men. Often times when we just “know” something, this is the “clair” at work. It is a sense of just knowing what it going on, you have an inherent sense that you’re right but you can’t explain it. Which really becomes difficult at business meetings, it’s difficult to get someone to listen to you “just because you say so”. The corporate world likes facts and figures and rarely extends itself to rely on anything that can’t be measured in some way.

Clair Sentience

This clair is about what you feel.

This is about actually FEELING something. For example: Let’s say that you are out shopping when all of a sudden you feel a sharp pain in your head. It eventually lessens, but about 20 minutes later you receive a call from your child’s school saying that they have fallen and hit their head on the playground. They’re OK, but they have a bit of a bump. This “clair” is about feeling a pain that someone else feels. You empathize. This is where the word empath comes from.

Tuning in and learning to listen to your body’s response to things can be challenging. Remember you are unique and a “feeling” might mean something different to someone else. An example of this could be when you hear some information regarding a situation that you’ve been pondering. Suddenly upon hearing a possible scenario, you are filled with dread, or you get the chills. This could mean the information is correct and your body is a signal to that. Or it could be incorrect, but that is where you have to learn the signals YOUR body is giving you.

That queasy butterfly feeling you get when meeting that special someone could be your body saying “At last I’ve finally found you” or it could be saying “Run as fast as you can”.

Learning to listen and interpret the feelings and what they mean to you is CRUCIAL.

Clair Audient

“Oh, you’re hearing voices”? This is the one that most people think is synonymous with mental illness. Hearing an internal voice from your higher self and hearing voices telling you to do something awful to someone and something are completely different let me assure you. A real life example would be a conversation I had with someone who was actually found to be schizophrenic. It went something like this.

“So you’re hearing voices”?

“Yes, lot’s of them all at once,…and they seem to be coming from over there in that corner”.

“What are they saying”?

“Well it’s garbled and they’re all talking over one another, it’s pretty annoying, but I try to get close and I listen really hard”

You might see the difference between that and hearing the voice of intuition telling you to take a different route home from work.

This “clair” is about listening after you ask a question. Like, “where did I leave my keys” and hearing “check your other jacket pocket”. Ask the question and have the patience to listen for the answer. It will eventually come. I liken this to using a pendulum for answers. Your body, your higher self, already knows the answers and it is reflected in the energy that comes through your body to the pendulum. It’s seems to be the same thing, you have the answer, in this case no pendulum is required. You just have to learn to listen to the internal voice that can guide you.

Clair Voyance

This “clair” is the one that deals with visions. Getting a mental picture in your head. Hollywood being a visual medium, loves to use this ability to showcase “psychic abilities”. This image presented in your mind’s eye is difficult to describe since it seems to vary between people.

Some have described it as seeing a movie, some say it’s a series of pictures strung together, others get flashes of images.

The common factor is that the vision has a specific meaning to the individual through the use of symbols. What is interesting here is that the symbols are unique to the person receiving them. For example: if you are getting a picture of roses it might mean love, or to others it could mean an upcoming wedding, to some it could remind them of a funeral. The picture and the meaning are unique to the person having the vision. This is why it’s challenging to try to interpret a vision or even a dream for someone else. Dreams and the interpretation of them use a universal language of symbols and their meaning. The problem is that this doesn’t account for our individual experiences and the imprint that they might have on the symbol.

The symbol of the pentacle comes to mind. Some believe it to be symbol of Paganism or Witchcraft, some associate it with Satanism. The two are dramatically different and couldn’t be more opposite in meaning.

Clair Alience

This ‘clair” is associated with the sense of smell. Have you ever experienced a time when you had a sudden fragrance just manifest itself? Say a perfume that someone wore? You just get a strong waft of it all of a sudden and it reminds you straight away of that person who wore it?

One experience I have had with this “clair” is one that happened right after I started taking Tarot classes. I was doing one of my first practice readings and all of a sudden I was surrounded by this heavy scent of Lilly of the Valley. I was so disturbed by it I went out to the hallway of the building I was living in and checked to see if someone had sprayed the hall with it. I checked the rest of the apartment, but found that it was centered right in the area where I was sitting. The next week at my Tarot lesson, I mentioned it to the teacher and right away she asked, “Well what does that scent remind you of”? Immediately I answered, “My Grandmother” (she had them all over her backyard while I was growing up). The teacher said, “Well, hello from your Grandmother”. This of course gave me goosebumps (Clairsentience).

A few weeks later my Mother was over and I was showing her the Tarot cards and telling her about my class when she started laughing and shaking her head”. I asked her what was so amusing and she said that “I was just like Grandma”, and then she told me about how Grandma used to take her out with her when she’d get her Tarot cards read. But she was sworn to secrecy because Grandpa would have had a fit. So I believe it was my Grandmother hovering about, just itching for me to read her cards. Or at least I’d like to think so.

Other instances, could be tobacco smoke, perfume, floral scents and even some extremely awful odors (rare as that is).

Clair Ambience

This is the ability to taste something. This is something I have not personally experienced myself. So it is hard for me to give you examples of. But perhaps the next time you taste Corned Beef and Cabbage when you haven't been eating it, and it is something your Aunt always ate, maybe she has come to pay you a visit.

However you choose to use your abilities, I suggest that you use a check and balance system. If you normally operate on the left (linear) brain side and you usually get your answers “logically”. Then next time, try checking your logical answer with your intuitive side. Sit and ask yourself if it feels right (empath), or how does that sound (audient)? What does your gut tell you (sentient). Listen to the responses you’re getting and then make the decision. If your intuitive side is saying “full steam ahead” then great!. If not, perhaps your intuition is saying something different.

Now on the flip side of that, if you happen to be a right (creative) brain person, perhaps you should recheck using the logical left brain once and a while (I know how you types are). If the solution still logically fits, then you’re in business. If not, perhaps you should also rethink your position. Most people tend to have one “clair” ability that seems to present itself more than the others. You will more than likely experience all of them at least once. I believe you can develop all of them.

For me, I am more Claircognizant, so I just know things. I might be reading your cards and all of a sudden there are 4 of your guides buzzing around all wanting to get a word in. I can tell you what they look like and what they’re wearing because I just know.

Sometimes I get names, it’s just there and it might be the name of the woman you work with that’s been giving you a hard time. You know,… the woman that we were just discussing.

Work with the abilities you already recognize and devise new ways to test your self with the others that seem to be dormant. Read and learn all you can. The unseen world is all around us if only we are willing to look with new eyes.
